Folha do Mate launches “Quem Disse?” plugin to fight disinformation on news websites
Tool developed with Codesinfo support provides transparency on authorship and sources, strengthening the credibility of digital journalism

Folha do Mate, a newspaper based in Venâncio Aires, Rio Grande do Sul, has announced the launch of the “Quem Disse?” plugin, an innovative tool developed for the WordPress CMS aimed at fighting disinformation on news websites. The project has been funded by Codesinfo – Innovation Fund for Combating Disinformation, an initiative by Projor sponsored by the Google News Initiative. Access to the solution is available on the Codesinfo website, with an open repository on GitHub, allowing other media outlets to use and adapt the tool.
The “Quem Disse?” plugin was designed to facilitate user access to detailed information about digital content authors. By clicking on the author’s name, readers are directed to a page displaying a short biography, an introductory video, a list of published content, and contact information. Additionally, the tool includes a database of recurring sources, such as authorities and experts, promoting greater transparency and credibility in the information presented.
Paula Carvalho, project manager, explains:
“The plugin aims to fight disinformation by providing a system that makes it easier for users to access the authorship of published content. This not only values the work of journalists but also allows readers to assess the credibility of the information.”
Integrating the plugin into the newsroom workflow is simple. Once an author is registered on the site, the system automatically retrieves their data and links it to the articles they have signed. Folha do Mate has already noticed an increase in the professional recognition of journalists, contributing to greater commitment to published content.
During the tool’s development, the team faced challenges in finding suppliers for open plugin development and internal limitations in technical knowledge. However, the team’s reception was positive, with journalists feeling valued and engaged in the process. Carvalho highlights: “Other developers will be able to bring solutions related to information automation and the organization of author qualification seals.”
According to her, Folha do Mate’s participation in the Codesinfo program provided a rich environment for knowledge exchange and innovation. “We are grateful for the opportunities we have had throughout the process. Participating in Codesinfo has been a unique opportunity to reinforce our values and our work,” concludes Paula Carvalho.
