Mamute Político

Mamute Político is an open-source platform that uses AI to enable voters to monitor politicians in Brazil’s National Congress. Mamute Político uses APIs from public and official databases to increase legislative transparency, democratizing access to voting records, bills, and even speeches delivered in plenary sessions. It serves as an “elephant’s memory” to fight “electoral amnesia.”

How It Works

Mamute Político allows users to track politicians of their choice, including federal deputies and/or senators. Monitoring covers voting records, legislative activities in general (such as bills and requests submitted), and even the content of speeches delivered by elected officials.

The platform uses AI to generate a word cloud based on the terms most frequently mentioned in politicians’ speeches. It also allows users to interact with a chatbot to ask questions about lawmakers’ activities. In addition, it automatically generates summaries of congressional activities, which are periodically sent to users by email.

Here is a step-by-step guide to using Mamute Político:

  1. Sign up on the platform (Enter your email > Confirm your email through your inbox > Return to the platform)
  2. Select one or more lawmakers to monitor
  3. Access the profile of the selected lawmaker(s) or the General Dashboard
  4. Use the AI Search feature, which uses artificial intelligence to answer questions related to the selected lawmaker(s)
  5. The Mamute Político Blog provides news and updates, including the launch of new features, keeping the community informed

Mamute Político addresses one of the main challenges in Brazil’s political landscape: “electoral amnesia”. Weeks after a vote, voters may forget who they voted for and, as a result, may find it more difficult to effectively hold their representatives accountable. Mamute Político addresses this issue by enabling continuous monitoring of selected members of Congress, with frequent updates on their legislative activities.

Mamute Político also supports local journalists. Considering that around 50% of Brazil’s more than 5,500 municipalities do not have a local newspaper, the platform helps decentralize the monitoring of politicians elected in smaller electoral constituencies. It enables journalists to investigate the activities of members of Congress in an intuitive way, contributing to greater public transparency.

Documentation

Mamute Político is an open-source platform. Therefore, its technology can be adapted for other purposes. For example, it can be used to build monitoring databases at the state and/or municipal level, covering City Councils and State Legislative Assemblies.

You can do this independently or by contacting our team at mamutepolitico@gmail.com. In this case, we can provide consulting services for the implementation and/or adaptation of the tool.

Any journalist may use Mamute Político’s database for reporting. In such cases, we ask that you inform your audience that the information was facilitated through the platform. If possible, please include a link to Mamute Político.
